Los Angeles Residents: Don’t Throw Your Special Vote Away!
If you or your clients are a Property Owner in the City of Los Angeles this message is very important to you.
The City of Los Angeles is moving forward with a proposal to triple fees for street lighting maintenance which will go to a vote of property owners.
Ballots will be mailed out beginning on April 17 to all affected properties as part of the Proposition 218 process. This ballot is separate from any election ballot and will come directly from the City’s Bureau of Street Lighting.
The proposed change would increase annual costs for many properties, with amounts varying based on property type and size. Only ballots that are returned are counted, and the outcome is determined by comparing the “Yes” and “No” votes submitted.
Because ballots are sent by mail, it is important to watch for the notice so that you do not overlook. When you receive it DO NOT THROW IT AWAY as per the rules of this ballot it will be counted as a “Yes” vote. Fill it out and mail it back. Your vote matters!
City officials did not contact REALTOR® associations at any time to discuss the assessment, and have continually put new regulations on property owners while restricting their ability to absorb new fees. For example, copper theft has been rampant, and no plan has been put forward to address the issues.
