GLAR Takes Pride in Homeownership
Wednesday, Jun 14, 2023 @ 03:01 PM

Pride is serious business for the Greater Los Angeles REALTORS®.

As allies to the LGBTQ+ community, our association is honoring pride month in our communities, in our day-to-day business, and in our advocacy efforts to ensure that homeownership and fair housing protections are available to all.

I am proud of the inclusive and representative culture that we have built at GLAR, with our strong history of LGBTQ+ leadership at the highest levels of our organization. There are not many associations in the country that can call the President-Elect of the LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance one of their own, and I am beyond thrilled to see what our Immediate Past President, Anthony Vulin, will do as President of the alliance in 2024.

While we have a lot of fun showing our pride at GLAR - you may have seen us walking in Pride Parades in West Hollywood, Santa Monica and elsewhere, or grabbed a picture with our smiling fair housing mascot Fayre Hausman, who came to life at a past Pride Parade, pride is serious business.

The LGBTQ+ community is denied Fair Housing protection in many states and does not receive consistent protection at the federal level. This is something that we should all be working to change, and our state’s Fair Housing protections can serve as a model for the rest of the nation. As REALTORS®, we should condemn discrimination wherever we see it, and always strive to uphold the principles of fairness enshrined in the REALTOR® Code of Ethics whenever we are dealing with our clients, or the community.

Equal and fair treatment to all is required by the REALTOR® code of ethics. Hate speech, slurs, epithets and discrimination is not tolerated under the code, and if you encounter it, you should report it. Discrimination has no place in our field. As REALTORS® we should be striving to help everyone achieve the dream of homeownership. It’s something we should all take pride in.

Pride has a home here at GLAR, and let’s all try to be a little bit better each day to make homeownership and fair housing a reality for all.
