REALTOR® Advocacy Scores Significant Victories

REALTOR® advocacy efforts by GLAR, C.A.R., and our neighboring associations scored big wins at the ballot box in the November 5th General Election.
At the local level, GLAR’s endorsed candidate, Nathan Hochman, cruised to a 20%+ victory in the District Attorney’s race. Feedback from GLAR’s members and the general public that public safety, and, specifically, smash and grabs, were a critical issue in our communities was a factor in deciding our endorsement.
At the state level, GLAR and C.A.R. advocacy was critical to defeating Proposition 33, which would have repealed Costa-Hawkins and enabled extreme rent control statewide and made building new housing more expensive and difficult. C.A.R. endorsed Proposition 34 also appears headed to a victory, which would require public health organizations to spend funds on their core mission of healthcare, and Proposition 3, which would remove discriminatory measures regarding same sex marriage from the state’s constitution, also is on track to win handily. C.A.R. supported and advocated on Propositions 34 and 3.
